Owing to its landscape and indigenous culture, Małopolska (Lesser Poland) is the most beautiful region of Poland. Majestic mountains, lovely valleys of the Kraków and Czestochowa Upland (Jura), green forests and glistening lakes make it a top choice among all kinds of pilgrims. It is a place well known for its historical cities, rich folklore and artistic events, where culture and religion penetrate each other at every turn. Numerous shrines attract swarms of pilgrims from the four corners of the world. They visit the world famous God's Mercy Basilica in Łagiewniki and the shrines in Kalwaria Zebrzydowska, LudĽmierz and Mogiła. They follow in the footsteps of Pope John Paul II in Cracow, Wadowice, Niegowić as well as along the mountainous routes. They bend over the relics of St Stanislaus BM, Albert Chmielowski, Maksymilian Maria Kolbe, Sister Faustyna. A walk along the Wooden Architecture Route provides a great opportunity to admire the unique old Catholic and Orthodox churches and rural houses of Polish nobility (dwory), whereas down in the Wieliczka Salt Mine the tourists can not only wander along the underground passages but also take part in a Holy Mass held in St Kinga's Chapel.
